Abstract

This paper proposes a set of guidelines designed to ensure that the operator interface of a computerized system will be easy to use. The guidelines are designed to apply to a broad range of computerized systems with a variety of input/output devices. Examples are given to illustrate the user interface problems that occur when specific guidelines are ignored. The possibility of guidelines like these becoming an IEEE standard is proposed.
