Abstract
We performed further studies of the influences on glycolysis in human red cells by purified human growth hormone by the method of Roos. We found that the observed inhibition of glucose consumption, decreased phosphofructokinase activity, low lactate production, decreasing effect on ATP concentration, and the relationship of pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase and pyruvate concentrations similar to the results obtained by using human growth hormone purified by the method of Raben. In both cases, the human growth hormone Raben and Roos we used have shown a noncompetitive inhibition of yeast phosphofructokinase.
