Abstract

Background: Symptomatic or complicated biliary tract disease is the second most common reason for nongynecological operations during pregnancy. The current knowledge of ERCP safety during pregnancy is limited due to the small number of patients in published papers and the relative infrequency of this procedure during pregnancy. Aim: To report the short-term safety and outcome data on 66 patients that underwent ERCP during a 6-year period, the largest number to date. Methods: This retrospective single center study is conducted over a 6-year period (September 2000 to September 2006) in the Endoscopy Unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital, UT Southwestern Medical Center.
