Abstract
As the track density increases, the properties of the erase band and track edge become more and more important. In this study, we report on a pertinent erase band measurement method, based on a magnetic force microscope, to characterize the erase bands and track edge overwrite properties resulting from the write-head fringe field in a precise manner. The erase bands of written tracks were measured by using the proposed technique, the so-called phase coherency method, for both longitudinal recording tracks and perpendicular tracks in comparison to the amplitude technique.
