Abstract
A recent paper in the contemporary literature QR. J. Wells and R. B. Tatge, ́Prediction of Silencer Performance Using Transmission Line Theory, Trans. ASME (Oct. 1971), pp. 404–410] shows that, for low frequencies, conventional silencers consisting of various combinations of parallel baffles and expansion chambers may be represented as an equivalent circuit of T-networks in series. This paper shows how it is possible to modify such T-networks to include the effect of gas flow on sound propagation through the silencer sections and hence on the attenuation. (Effects of flow on the impedance of silencing elements must be considered separately.)
