Abstract

This paper is an attempt to extend probabilistic reliability to the fatigue design of machine tools. Based on the log-normal distribution of fatigue lives and the power and torque characteristics of universal machine tools, theoretical formulae are proposed for calculating the equivalent fatigue load for a specified reliability. Derivation of the equivalent fatigue load formulae is expressed in terms of the load conversion factor and the reliability factor. The formulae for calculating these factors under various working conditions are derived in the paper.
