Abstract

Abstract Interfering effects in the recovery of steroids from thin-layer chromatography adsorbant increase in importance as steroid levels decrease to the optimal range for good resolution. A study of these effects has resulted in a standardized method whereby amounts of 1 μg of adsorbed steroids can be recovered quantitatively. This procedure is applicable to the serial elution of many fractions through the use of the described equipment. As such, it is particularly useful in clinical estimations and metabolic studies of urinary steroids through the combined thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography methods of analysis.
