Abstract

For the purpose of this manuscript, the following definitions will be observed: Castration is the elective surgical removal of two testicles from the scrotum. Hemi-castration is the accidental removal of only one testicleat castration instead of two. Unilateral castration is the elective surgical removal of one testicle only. Cryptorchidism is a developmental anomaly in which one or both testes fail to descend into the scrotum. Monorchidism is a developmental anomaly in which there is only one testis. Hemi-castrate cryptorchid is a hemi-castrate with the retained testicle within the inguinal canal or abdomen. Retained testis refers to the testis left behind in a hemi-castrate regardless of its position. Cryptorchid testicle is the testis located within the inguinal canal or the abdomen of a cryptorchid.
