Abstract
Anatomy of the stomach The horse has a single-chambered stomach that can be divided into three regions. The upper third of the stomach is non-glandular, covered with stratified squamous epithelium and has no functional role. The lower two-thirds of the stomach is covered with glandular mucosa and is sub-divided into the body (mid-third of the stomach) and the pyloric antrum (distal third). The margo plicatus demarcates the boundary between the non-glandular and glandular parts of the stomach.
