Abstract

It has been suggested that radiational heating of atmospheric soot particles could affect the stability of organic compounds on the aerosols as these systems age in the atmosphere. To investigate this possibility, we introduce a simple equation for calculating the equilibrium temperature of atmospheric particles. The results show that under typical conditions, the temperature difference between the particles and the surrounding air is less than 0.01 K.
