Abstract

1. Using the solubility method, it was found that in aqueous acid solution (1–4 M/liter) the reaction of palladium chloride with 1-butene leads to the formation of the π-complexes of C4H8PdCl3− and C4H8PdCl2OH2. The equilibrium constants for the formation of these complexes from PdCl22− and dissolved 1-butene at 14.8° and an ionic strength of approximately 4 g-ion/liter are 13.6 and 4.5 M/liter, respectively. 2. The stability of the π-complexes of 1-butene with palladium chloride is but slightly different from the stability of the corresponding π-complexes of ethylene. 1-Butene and ethylene are trans-influencing ligands of approximately equal strength.
