Abstract

Equilibrium modeling has been used to predict the composition of the fuel gas produced in a downdraft gasifier for cotton stalks biomass at 800°C with the moisture content from 0 to 30%. The calorific value of the fuel gas has been determined. The predicted values are in good agreement with the experimental data. The moisture content in the cotton stalks biomass and the variability in calorific value, have been investigated. It has been found that the calorific value of the producer gas decreases with the increase in moisture content of the cotton stalks. Key words: Gasification, biomass, downdraft gasifier, modeling.
