Abstract

Time-independent configurations of a cosmic string described by the Nambu action in a Kerr-Newman spacetime are considered. It is shown that this problem can be reduced to the investigation of the geodesics for some three-dimensional metric. The corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi equation admits separation of variables. The general solution describing the string equilibrium configurations is obtained. The case of a string in the equatorial plane is discussed in more detail.
