Abstract

As already mentioned there are two limiting conditions for the cooling of a combined conductor situated in a liquid helium tank. In the first of these the conductor is surrounded by a large volume of liquid helium, and in the second the conductor is wound fairly tightly and it is difficult for the helium to penetrate into the inner layers. An intermediate position between these two limiting cases is occupied by various kinds of loose windings containing channels between the turns for the passage of liquid helium.
