Abstract

Equilibrium distribution calculated using the analogue of Saha's ionization formula is examined with the recent nuclear masses and abundance data. It is found that up to A = 92, the abundance distribution can be well reproduced. The electron degeneracy which becomes important is also considered for the region A = 64-92. The equilibrium temperature is found to be 6.5 x 10/sup 9/ degrees. The neutrality is taken to be satisfied by protons, neutrons, electrons, and alpha particles. The presence of positrons is not considered. Though effects of the excited levels are neglected, the differences between the even and odd nuclei are taken into account. (auth)
