Abstract

The influence of a “continuous” distribution of particle sizes on the equation of state of dispersion of hard-discs and hard-spheres is discussed. The van der Waals one-fluid approximation gives simple expressions for the change in pressure with degree of polydispersity. For hard-spheres at low volume fraction, good agreement is obtained with the exact Percus—Yevick result.
