Abstract

Phase transitions in a shell are considered within the frame example work of a biomembrane of a general shape divided into parts containing different phases. The configuration of a boundary separating these phases is determined by the condition of minimum of the total membrane free energy with respect to its position. Equations of equilibrium for both the membrane phases and the phase boundary are deduced. They allow to describe the heterophase state of the biomembrane.
