Abstract
Activation of Mg(OH) 2 under vacuum at 380 °C leads to a high con- centration of paramagnetic centers at the surface of the so-obtained MgO. Molecular hydrogen (2 bar) chemisorption on these centres has been studied in the temperature range 20 – 170 °C, and has been shown to lead to a de- crease of the paramagnetic center concentration, attributed to the formation of labile hydroxyl groups.
