Abstract

EPR spectra of Mn(II) in the tetrahedral crystal field of chloride ions in single crystals of tetramethylammoniumtetrachlorozincate(II) is reported. The presence of two magnetically distinct sites has been correlated with the host lattice ZnCl 4 2− local geometry. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters for this high-spin d 5 system are g = 2.0023; A = −82.0 G, B = −80 G; a=-10.7 G; D= +130.8G and F=+4.8G. The absolute sign of the cubic field splitting parameter a is discussed. Two low temperature phase transitions have been detected.
