Abstract

EPR study of the octahedral Fe 3+ ion in garnets Ca 3 M 2Ge 3O 12 ( M = Al, Ga, Sc, In, Lu) and AFMR study of an antiferromagnetic garnet Ca 3Fe 2Ge 3O 12 have been performed. The parameters of spin Hamiltonain, deduced from the EPR spectra, are used in order to calculate the first anisotropy constant K 1 of the Ca 3Fe 2Ge 3O 12 garnet. The temperature dependence is compared with K 1( T) obtained from AFMR.
