Abstract

A single crystal room temperature X-band electron paramagnetic resonance study of α-MnCl 2·4H 2O revealed an isotropic Lorentzian line with a halfwidth at halfheight of 647 gauss. In addition no temperature variation in the 77–300 K range was observed nor was a frequency variation observed in the 9–14 GHz range. The interpretation indicates that while the exchange field at room temperature is roughly comparable to the low temperature value it is somewhat greater than the EPR observation fields.
