Abstract

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) has been used to identify and analyze a CrO3-4 species produced by UV irradiation in single crystals of chromate-doped methylammonium aluminum alum and in potassium aluminum alum lightly codoped with the methylammonium ion. The photoreduction is a simple reduction of the type CrO2-4 + e- → CrO3-4, where the odd electron is a photoelectron liberated by the methylammonium ion.
