The postsynaptic density (PSD) is a macromolecular machine that organizes signal transduction pathways at the postsynaptic membrane. In his essay that won the Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology, Michael Ehlers discusses how synapse activity regulates changes in PSD composition through ubiquitin-dependent protein turnover.
