Abstract
Functional composite materials (FCMs) play an important role in many areas including the aerospace, and transportation industries as well as in domestic appliances. In this study, two types of FCMs were prepared using nanocarbon-coated glass fibers (NCGFs) and glass fiber cloths (NCGFCs) as reinforcements and epoxy resin as the matrix. Nanocarbon coatings of glass fiber cloths have good electrical conductivity, providing the FCMs with the electrical and thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding performance. Moreover, an increase in NCGF content and number of NCGFC layers improves the conductive, thermal and electromagnetic shielding properties of the FCMs. The electrical conductivity of the FCM containing 20 wt.% NCGFs reaches 6.68 × 10−6 S/m. The electromagnetic shielding properties of FCM containing both NCGF and NCGFC exceeds 20 dB. Overall, this study provides a new method for constructing fiber weave shielding composites and expands the application field of glass fibers reinforced composites.
