Abstract

We report on the preparation and characterization of NdBa2Cu3O7-δ (NBCO) films grown on SrTiO3 (100), LaAlO3 (100), and NdGaO3 (110) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) using a large NBCO single crystal target. The zero resistance temperature (91–93 K) and critical current density (>106 A/cm2 at 77 K) of the films are similar to those for NBCO films deposited from a sintered target. However, a significant reduction in the number of large droplets was achieved by using the single crystal target. The influence of deposition parameters, including substrate temperature, oxygen pressure, and target-substrate distance on properties of NBCO films were investigated in detail.
