brought to the attention of the Division of Inland Fisheries of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission by fishermen in the fall of 1972. The fishermen were concerned about the presence of red lesions on game species which made the fish unappealing and undesirable as table fare. The health of fish in these river chains has since become a source of widespread interest and concern in North Carolina.
