Abstract
This chapter tackles the impact of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty from the incumbency of George H. W. Bush to Donald Trump. The INF Treaty died on February 2, 2019, when President Trump triggered the six-month notification to revoke the deal. The INF Treaty died for several reasons, which include the Putin government's violation of the agreement to deploy about one hundred SSC-8s. The chapter cites that American policymakers of the Biden administration and its successor can employ lessons from the INF Treaty negotiation to constrain Russian and Chinese ground-based intermediate-range ballistic and cruise missiles. Regardless of the American approach, US officials should anticipate slow progress during bilateral talks with Russia and China.
