Abstract

The paper analyses the EEG pattern, distribution over the brain and incidence of epileptic episodes of spike and waves or spikes (ESWC/S) induced in rats (with chronic electrodes in the cortex and hippocampus bilaterally and in the mesencephalic reticular formation) by implanting cobalt-gelatine into the dorsal hippocampus and/or thalamus unilaterally.A quantitative analysis of the incidence of ESWC/S-s at different levels of vigilance proves that the ESWC/S-s are related mainly to relaxed wakefulness and somnolence. No relationship between the parameters of the ESWC/S and the localization of the cobalt focus in the hippocampus and/or thalamus could be found.
