Abstract

Epilepsy is a very prevalent condition, requiring a correct identification. Epilepsy patient remains stigmatized socially. In 2017, ILAE has proposed a new classification of epilepsy syndromes and its seizures, provided a universal vocabulary, more practical, operational and flexible. Ambiguous terms (like complex partial, secondarily generalized, psychic and dyscognitive epilepsy) have disappeared. Etiologies are grouped in six categories (genetic, structural, metabolic, immune, infectious and unknown). Anamnesis and electroencephalogram continue to be the essential pillars for the diagnostic of epileptic seizures.
