Abstract

(Int J Obstet Anesth. 2019;37:118–121) Epidural hematoma is a rare complication of spinal anesthesia while cesarean delivery (CD) is a risk factor for maternal venous thromboembolism. The more frequent use of pharmacologic prophylaxis with unfractionated or low–molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) in higher risk women has been recommended as a strategy to decrease venous thromboembolism. This case report described the development of a spinal-epidural hematoma in a parturient who received spinal anesthesia for a planned, repeat CD after receiving LMWH thromboprophylaxis.
