Abstract

The epidermal structure and ontogeny of normal and abnormal stomata in vegetative and floral organs of Plumbago zeylanica L inn . are described here. The mature stomata are anisocytic, paracytic, tetracytic, anomocytic and cyclocytic. The ontogeny of anomocytic and cyclocytic stomata is haplocheilic or perigenous, that of tetracytic is mesoperigenous while that of the other two types is syndetocheilic or mesogenous. An increase in number of subsidiary cells is due to the divisions of subsidiary cells. The ontogeny of stomata in different organs is constant but the stomatal complex vary from organ to organ. Abnormalities observed are stoma with a single guard cell, unequal guard cells and persistent stomatal initial. Four types of trichomes are also noticed.
