Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To find out the prevalence rate and the tendency of the infertility among new-married couples from 1995 to 2006 of Anhui Province as well as to probe the relationship between infertility. DESIGN: We use the method of descriptive epidemical study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We carried out data analysis for 137332 couples by using the “National Database of Women Information System (WIS) on Reproductive Health”. Inclusive criterion of the subjects is the new-married couples from 1995 to 2006. RESULTS: The rate of couples who have not given a birth is obviously rising from 1995 to 2006. The rate is 1.9% in 1995, the rate up to 4.5% in 2000, and the rate reach 8.9% in 2003, and the rate of 2006 is 16.6%. The rate of infertility of 1995-1998 is 2.2%, and the rate of 1999-2002 is up to 4.8%, and the rate has reached to 12.8% in 2003-2006. By stratifying analyses of woman marital age group, the infertility of 1998-1998 is 4.8% in 20-25 years old group and the rate reaches to 14.3% in 2003-2006. In the 25-30 years old group, the infertility rate is 13.5% in 1995-1998, and up to 23.8% in 2003-2006. In the group of older then 30 years old, the infertility rate is 19.6% in 1995-1998, and the rate is up to 27% in 2003-2006. We use stratified analysis according to the different periods (1995-1998, 999-2002 and 2003-2006) to discuss the relationship between the woman's marriage age and infertility. The infertility rates of couples whose marriage age is between 20 to 25 years old are 13.5% and 14.1% and 14.3% respectively in 1995-1998 and 1999-2002 and 2003-2006. And the infertility rates of couples whose marriage age is older than 30 years old are 19.6% and 23.1% and 33.2% in 1995-1998 and 1999-2002 and 2003-2006 respectively. CONCLUSION: The rate of couples who have not given a birth up to today has a rising tendency. The rate of infertility has a rising tendency. The older the female marriage age is, the higher the infertility is.
