Abstract

We review the results of our investigation of the incidence of fractures of the proximal femur, distal radius, and proximal humerus, in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, and compared our results with those found previously in other countries. During the period from 1986 to 1988, 918 proximal femoral, 1103 distal radial, and 260 proximal humeral fractures in patients over 35 years of age were recorded in Tottori Prefecture. In all fracture types, age-and sex-specific incidence was lower among Japanese than among European or North American whites.
