Abstract

SummaryThis brief review of the epidemiology of endometrial cancer is in three sections. The first considers recent trends in incidence and mortality in the United Kingdom and in the United States, the second summarises what is known about ‘risk factors’, and the third deals with the evidence that combined oral contraceptives protect against the disease. Although not strictly correct, the terms ‘endometrial cancer’ and ‘corpus cancer’ have had to be regarded as equivalent in this article. This is because much of the available vital statistical information relates to corpus cancer in general rather than to endometrial cancer alone.
