Abstract

Objective To investigate the prevalence, treatment and impact factors of asthma in children in Jinan city in order to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of childhood asthma in future. Methods By adopting random cluster sampling method and combining the form of decentralized home visits and intensive survey, an epidemiological survey was performed among children aged from 0 to 14 years old in Jinan city from Sep.2010 to Apr.2011.SPSS 19.0 software was used for conditional Logistic regression analysis of factors affecting the incidence of asthma. Results Between 2010 and 2011, the accumulative total prevalence of asthma in children between 0 to 14 years old in Jinan city was 2.58%, and the ratio of boys and girls was 1.42∶1.The prevalence rate was 1.36% in 2 years survey.Asthma, cough variant asthma consistent with the previous diagnosis accounted for 54.13% (351 cases). Asthma attacked mainly in autumn and winter seasons.Asthma attacked mainly at midnight or just before sleep.Children with asthma long-term and standard inhaled corticosteroids treatment accounted for 13.39%.The percent of ninety-one point one seven of the asthma children used antibiotics as a treatment for wheeze attack.Allergies, genetic factors and low birth weight were related to asthma. Conclusions The prevalence of asthma in children in Jinan city increases every year, and changes of lifestyles and environments may have caused the increase of the asthma incidence.
