Abstract

Workplace accidents are a challenge to public health and have a socioeconomic impact. It is possible to avoid such incidents, however, there is a need for greater accuracy in records and information regarding cases that occur. This study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile of work accidents in the Northeast region of Brazil between 2015 and 2023. It is an ecological study, based on data from the SUS Information Technology Department (DATASUS) recorded between 2015 and 2023. It included- data on work accidents occurring in the Brazilian northeast, evaluating the following variables: causes, age group, sex, state of the northeast and work situation. The profile of the worker most affected between 2015 and 2023 was mixed race (65.15%), male (77.39%), between 20 and 39 years old (54.42%), from Bahia (28.27%), who did not have access to reporting an accident at work (41.67%), registered employee (32.35%). which was most frequently caused by environmental conditions, but managed to recover (35.73%). Work accidents in Brazil predominantly affect the mixed-race population, correlated to their demographic representation. Males and those aged between 20 and 39 years assume higher risk occupations, being more prone to accidents. In Bahia, a prominent state, typical accidents prevail. Environment and working conditions are determining factors in accident rates, highlighting the importance of preventive changes. Many workers did not have access to workplace accident reporting, which is essential for protection and monitoring. Informal workers may be underreported. As a result, it is observed that the majority of affected individuals manage to recover, but in the process, inconvenience is generated for the worker and the production chain. Therefore, it is essential to implement preventive measures and occupational accident management strategies, in addition to the attention of health professionals regarding working conditions and risks for these groups.
