Abstract

Objective To understand the adult burn patients' clinical epidemiology features in Fujian province to provide references for formulating and carrying out the targeted measures. Methods The clinical data of 1 166 burn adults inpatients from June 2012 to June 2015 in the Burn Center of Fujian province were retrospectively analyzed.They were divided into youth group, middle-aged group and older-aged group according to the division of age of the World Health Organization and the three groups were compared, including burn area, depth, inhalation injury, complications, mortality, morbidity season, treatment and prognosis, the average number of surgery, the average length of stay, the average hospitalization expenses, etc. Results In three years, the burn adults accounted for 44.72% for the average annual percentage of the total number of hospitalized patients at the same period (1 166/2607).856 were male patients and 310 were women.Sex ratio was 2.76: 1.The young were the most among the burn adults, accounting for 60% (700/1 166). Patients with II degree burn depth were the most, accounting for 49.4% (576/1 166), and patients with II~III degree accounted for 35.8% (417/1 166) .The mean area of TBSA was (11.93±15.87) %.The site of the burns was the highest in the workplace accounted for 50.3%.The flame burns accounted for 41.5%, which was the most.The site was treated with water and clothing accounted for 12.7% and 13.6%.The burned area was usually on head and face, body, hands and forearms.Most of burn occurred in the workplace and mainly occurred in summer, accounting for 30.6%, peaked in July.Burns occured mostly from 10: 00 to 12: 00.10.4%(122/1 166) suffered with inhalation injury.The mean number of operations was (0.48±1.05) times.The mean hospitalization time was (23.55±27.71) days, and the mean hospitalization expenses was (42 554.14±87 877.00) RMB.There were no significant differences between the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusions The characteristics of adult burn in Fujian was mainly injured while working and because of flames which always caused hand burns.The reason of elderly burn patients was flame burn at home with the characteristic of more than young adults.The government should take effective measures to keep occupational safety, strengthen the position of young worker safety education and also strengthen the elderly home security at the same time.Then it can reduce the incidence of burn.
