Abstract
Objective To analyze the epidemiological features of hepatitis E in China during 2004 and 2013, and to provide basis for prevention and control. Methods The epidemic situation and the distribution characteristics of hepatitis E in China during 2004 and 2013 were analyzed by descriptive epidemiology. Results During 2004 and 2013, the incidence rate of hepatitis E increased substantially year by year, and totally 218 426 cases were reported which included 358 deaths and accounted for 0.16%. The yearly incidence rate fluctuated between 1.19/100 000 and 2.17/100 000 with the average rate of 1.64/100 000. The cases were reported in the whole year, and often occurred in spring accounting for 35.25% (76 992/218 426) . Regional distribution basically showed high incidence rate in east whereas low in west. And more cases were reported in Jiangsu, Guangdong, Zhejiang and Liaoning, and accounted for 41.23% (90 047/218 426) . Hepatitis E occurred in all age groups with the highest rate in 40-59 age group, and accounted for 46.89% (102 427/218 426) . The number of cases and incidence rates of hepatitis E increased with age rising, and was up to 4.10/100 000 in 60-69 age group, then decrease. Male patients of hepatitis E were far more than females with the ratio of 2.79:1. The reported hepatitis E cases were peasants, and accounted for 41.42% (90 466/218 426) . Conclusions In China, both the incidence and the morbidity of hepatitis E are upward year by year. More hepatitis E cases are reported in spring. The disease affects all age groups, and the report cases increase with age. Promotion of hepatitis E vaccine immunization should be a key measure for prevention and control of the disease.
