Abstract
In taking up the subject of epidemic encephalitis lethargica I have not gone into the history of the condition because in doing so I would be repeating matter which has already appeared inThe Journal. 1 These articles, however, do not refer to certain previous publications on the subject. Dr. I. P. Battle of Rocky Mount, N. C., has kindly furnished me with reference to an article published by Landon Carter Gray, W. B. Pritchard and R. C. Shulz. 2 In this article is described a condition known as nona which seems to closely resemble the present epidemic. There also appeared an article by Trautjen 3 in 1890 in which he attributed the condition to the influence of the recent epidemic of influenza. Another article on the condition appeared in 1890 by Hammerslough, 4 and another the same year by Mauthner. 5 This article attributed the pathologic lesions to polioencephalitis
