‘EPIC’ moves the goalposts

Abstract

The EPIC trial is the largest prospective, randomised, blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial in veterinary cardiology to date. The study recruited 360 dogs in order to answer the question ‘is administration of pimobendan to dogs with degenerative mitral valve disease prior to the onset of heart failure beneficial?’ The main conclusions of the study have just been published and the answer is ‘Yes’.
