Abstract

Outer dynein arm (ODA) motor proteins generate the movement of cilia and flagella. We recently demonstrated that a defective ependymal cilia beat results in the absence of the cerebrospinal fluid flow through the aqueductus Sylvii in Mdnah5- deficient mice and causes an obstructive hydrocephalus due to an aqueduct closure (Hum Mol Genet 13:2133–41, 2004). Composition of ODA proteins has been not analyzed in ependymal cilia so far.
