Abstract
The etiology of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is mainly related to asbestos exposure. Genetic predisposition may play a role, and familial clustering of MPM has been reported. Second primary cancers (SPCs) have been proposed as a possible indicator for genetic clustering and/or shared mechanisms of carcinogenesis. We aimed to investigate the occurrence of SPCs in Lombardy Mesothelioma Registry (about 10 million inhabitants), Northern Italy.
