Abstract

To compare findings at first trimester ultrasound screening in pregnant women after IVF vs. spontaneous pregnancies at Santa Isabel clinic in Lima Peru. Between March 2012 and March 2015, 3,939 consecutive pregnant women at first trimester were assessed by 4 operators accredited for first trimester ultrasound screening by the Fetal Medicine Foundation. The ultrasound scan follows the protocol published in its web. There were 3,527 spontaneous singleton pregnancies and 308 IVF pregnancies. Both groups were similar in weight, height, BMI, ethnic, CRL and smoking status. IVF women were older (36.4+/−4.2years vs. 32.8+/−4.1years, p < 0.05). The proportion of the Nuchal translucency (NT) over the 95 centile was significantly higher in the IVF conceived pregnancies as compared with spontaneously conceived pregnancies (table 1) Similar results were found with the others first trimester ultrasound markers of aneuploidy. This causes a significantly higher false positive rate at each risk cut point. We need further studies to create a specific protocol to screen and counsel IVF pregnant women.
