Abstract

Using an administrative database of health care claims, Markman et al (Circulation 2021;144:1590, PMID 34780252) sought to determine the incidence and predictors of persistent opioid use in opioid-naive patients after cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) procedures. Patients undergoing all CIED procedures between January 1, 2004, and December 31, 2018, were included in the analysis. Opioid-naive patients were defined as those without an opioid prescription in the 180 days before the procedure.
