Abstract

Using data from the Paris-Sudden Death Expertise Center, which maintains prospective registries of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) within the greater Paris area, Karam et al (J Am Coll Cardiol 2022;79:238–246, PMID 35057909) sought to assess temporal trends in the incidence, management, and outcome of sports-related sudden cardiac arrest (SrSCA). SrSCA was defined as a sudden, unexpected pulseless event occurring during sports or within 1 hour of sports end. Included were subjects 18–75 years of age, and young competitive athletes were considered those 18–35 years old who engaged in organized team or individual sports.
