Abstract

Using meta-analysis of trials of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter undergoing transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) prior to cardioversion (CV) or ablation, Lurie et al (J Am Coll Cardiol 2021;77:2875–2886; PMID: 34112315) sought to assess the prevalence of left atrial (LA) thrombus following at least 3 weeks of continuous anticoagulation. The authors searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL using key terms including AF, TEE, LA thrombus, oral anticoagulation, and related terms looking for studies of patients with AF/atrial flutter undergoing TEE after at least 3 weeks of oral anticoagulation that reported the incidence of LA thrombus found on TEE.
