Abstract

RATIONALE: Eotaxin is a Th2 cytokine that functions as a chemo-attractant for eosinophils. In previous experiments, (R)- and (S)-albuterol showed differing effects on release of GM-CSF from human airway smooth muscle cells (HASMC), another important eosinophil-modulating cytokine. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of albuterol enantiomers on eotaxin release from HASMC, to further determine the scope of their effects on pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
