Abstract
AbstractA visible‐light photocatalyzed process for the synthesis of 2‐mercaptobenzothiazoles from 2‐azidoarenediazonium tetrafluoroborates and carbon disulfide has been discovered. The reaction proceeded via single electron transfer reduction of azidoarenediazonium ion to corresponding azidoarene radical followed by carbon disulfide addition and intramolecular cyclization (with azide moiety) reactions. This method is very practical owing to the use of inexpensive eosin Y, mild reaction conditions and easy purification step thus delivering the target compounds in high yields.
