Abstract

kininogen, 119 rag/1 for LMW kininogen, and 215 mg/1 for total kininogen. Plasma from patients deficient in kininogen (Fitzgerald, Williams) was virtually free of kininogen antigen ( < 0.1 mg/1) thus further stressing the specificity of the assays with respect to kininogens. Presence of kininogens has been tested by the newly developed assays in a variety of human secretions, e.g. saliva, urine, seminal plasma, and pancreatic juice. Out of these, human urine contained major amounts of LMW kininogen (1.4-6.2mg/1) thus providing significant amounts of kinin precursor for the processing proteinase urinary kallikrein. Present efforts are aimed at the quantitation of plasma levels of human kininogens in pathological states towards a better understanding of the role of the kininogens in health and disease.
