Abstract

This study was focused to develop a cost effective and simple sensing method for Malathion using Thioglycolic acid (TGA) capped Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) quantum dots. Quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by reflux condensation method and capped with TGA. QDs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, Spectrofluorometer, FT-IR and HR-TEM. Size of the TGA capped QDs were found to be 2.5 nm. Interaction of Malathion and quantum dots was analyzed by Spectrofluorometer based on photoluminescence (PL) quenching. The lowest detection limit of Malathion was found to be 2 ppb which was observed from the minimum interference it could cause in the PL spectrum.
